Professor Timothy O. Adejumo was born in Modakeke, Ife East Local Govt., Osun State, Nigeria. He attended ILEA Primary School, Odesomi via Osu-Ilesa and Modakeke High School, Modakeke. He holds B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Microbiology (Ilorin) and Ph.D in Agriculture: Mycology and Plant Pathology (Ibadan) in 1985, 1988 and 1997 respectively. His area of specialization is Agricultural/Environmental Microbiology & Biotechnology, with research interests in molecular diagnostics, mycotoxicology, phytopathology, soil microbiology and microbial ecology, where he has about 60 publications in local/international journals and books to his credit. He joined the services of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in October, 2001 as Lecturer I and rose through the ranks to the position of Professor in 2013. He is currently the Dean, Faculty of Science since August, 2017. He was the Coordinator and Head of Department of Microbiology (Aug., 2002- July, 2004, April, 2008- Oct., 2010 and Aug 2014- Sept., 2016), Postgraduate Coordinator (2008 to 2017), Acting Director, Science Laboratory Technology (Dec., 2003- Aug., 2005), Acting Director, Centre for Research and Development (Oct., 2010- Feb., 2014), Director, Linkage and International Programmes Office (May 2015- Oct. 2016) and Director, Centre for Space, Energy and Environmental Research (Oct., 2016- July, 2017). He is presently the Chairman and member of more than 15 University Committees.
He is a seasoned researcher of international repute, widely travelled. He has attended more than 35 international conferences in the USA, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, India, South Africa, Cameroon and Ghana. He has won several Fellowships, Awards and Research Grants, including the Graduate Research Fellowship of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan in 1996; Georg Forster Research Fellowship of Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Foundation, Germany between 2005 and 2007; AvH Renewed Research Fellowships in 2010, 2013 and 2017 and German Language Study Fellowship in 2005. He obtained travel grants to attend many conferences, trainings and workshops, including Workshop on Quantitative Biology at International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy in 2005; Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Training at Dept. of Plant Pathology, University of Kentucky, Lexington, USA in 2007, Advanced Skill Training in Leadership and Evangelism at Haggai Institute, Maui, USA in 2007, ISME17 at Leipzig, Germany and SASM Conference, Johannesburg, South Africa in 2018. He received an Award of Outstanding Service as an Online Mentor, Minority Mentoring Program of American Society for Microbiology, USA in 2011. Other grants obtained include Adekunle Ajasin University Research Grant in 2011, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund) Conference Grant in 2014, TETfund Research Grant (Institution Based) in 2015 and grant for hosting Humboldt-Kolleg (a Conference of Alexander von Humboldt, Germany) at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko on 4-7 June, 2018.
Professor Timothy Adejumo delivered a very interesting 9th Inaugural Lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko on 14th June, 2016 titled ‘Microbes: Our Intimate Companions, Sometimes With Deadly Relationships’. He has worked as Research Officer I (Microbiology) at Lake Chad Research Institute, Maiduguri in 1988-1989, Research Associate (Microbiology) at IITA, Ibadan (1990-1997) and Senior Research Officer (Plant Pathology) at Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (1999-2001). He is a member of 14 professional associations, including the International Society for Microbial Ecology, The Netherlands, where he was appointed as a member of the International Board of Ambassadors: Pioneer Ambassador of ISME to Nigeria. He is also the Founder and Pioneer Chairman and Member, Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Society for Microbial Ecology. He is also a member of International Society for Plant Pathology, Australia; American Society for Microbiology, Washington DC, USA; International Association for the Plant Protection Sciences (IAPPS), USA; Nigerian Society for Microbiology; Science Association of Nigeria; Nigerian Society for Plant Protection; Biotechnology Society of Nigeria and Mycotoxin Society of Nigeria.
He is an External Assessor of academic publications for Professorial appointments at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, 2015 to date; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, 2016 to date; Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, 2018 and Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, 2018. Adjunct Lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, 2015, Crawford University, Igbesa, 2017 and Postgraduate External Examiner at University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Federal University of Technology, Akure, 2016 to date; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, 2017 to date and Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, 2018. He has effectively supervised the seminars, projects/dissertations and theses of Two hundred and twenty (220) B.Sc, 3 M.Sc. and 2 Ph.D. students. He is happily married to Prof. (Mrs) Arinpe Gbekelolu Adejumo, and they are blessed with three children: Toluwani, IbukunOluwa and OoreOluwa.
